Developments in Sustainable Construction at V-PRE Conference

Carbon4Minerals was well-represented by our esteemed partners from Heidelberg Materials at the V-PRE conference held in Weimar in October. Maciej Zajac was invited as a keynote speaker, giving a lecture on “Application of CO2 mineralization in cementitious materials for valorization and recycling enhancement.” Meanwhile, Nicolas Pato delivered an oral presentation titled “Circular concrete: selective recycling technologies.”

Both talks emphasized the benefits of the circular economy in cement and concrete, where the recycled concrete paste (RCP) from concrete demolition is valorized by carbonation into a supplementary cementitious material, enabling CO2 sequestration.

Additionally, recycled sand and aggregates are recovered from the same process for use in producing new concrete. The conference offered insights into recent developments in the characterization, processing, and application of recovered materials from construction and demolition waste (CDW), and attracted an international audience of over 100 participants from academia and industry stakeholders.
