4th Consortium meeting in Zürich, Switzerland

June 2024

The CARBON4MINERALS project held its 4th Consortium meeting in Zürich, Switzerland, hosted by our esteemed partners at ETHZ on June 19th and 20th. The two-day event was a productive blend of presentations, discussions, and site visits, reinforcing our commitment to advancing carbon removal solutions.

The first day began with a warm welcome from the hosts and Liesbeth Horckmans, the project coordinator. The agenda kicked off with updates on dissemination and communication efforts, highlighting the project's progress and outreach strategies.

Following this, an exploitation workshop was presented, focusing on the practical applications and potential impacts of our work. Each partner then provided an update on their ongoing tasks and shared insights into their current status. This was a crucial session for assessing progress and identifying the next steps in our collective efforts.

In the afternoon, the consortium members embarked on an enlightening site visit to Neustark, a leading provider in the rapidly growing field of carbon removal and storage, having developed a solution to permanently store CO₂ from the air in recycled mineral waste such as demolished concrete. Their first solutions have been deployed in Switzerland and Europe and are already capturing and storing tons of CO₂ every day. They are currently scaling up operations and carbon removal impact globally – on the road to ambition of removing one million tons of CO₂ in 2030, and beyond that. The visit to Neustark's silo storage plant at Spross Recycling, in collaboration with Spross Transport & Recycling, showcased their efficient integration of carbon storage solutions within urban recycling operations. The day concluded with a social dinner, providing an opportunity for partners to reconnect and discuss the day's insights.

The second day was dedicated to presentations from the remaining partners. Each presentation sparked lively discussions, focusing on overcoming current challenges and exploring future opportunities. This collaborative atmosphere fostered a deeper understanding of each partner's contributions and reinforced our shared goals. The meeting wrapped up with a closing presentation by the coordinator, who outlined the project's future work and the strategic steps necessary to achieve our targets. The 4th Consortium meeting was a resounding success, marked by insightful presentations, strategic discussions, and inspiring site visits. Check out our partners in the gallery below.
