Introducing Carbon4Minerals consortium member - Vandersanden.

Vandersanden is a family-owned company founded almost 100 years ago. Vandersanden is a producer of 600 Mio. fired facing bricks and pavers a year. Their headquarter is in Bilzen (Belgium), with 9 production locations in Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands. With sales entities in UK and France,  Vandersanden has 14 entities in total. 

Vandersanden has in total more than 850 employees and an annual turnover of around 260 mio. Euro’s. 

Vandersanden is a front runner on the path to carbon neutrality and circular economy in the building materials industry. 

Role in the project

In Carbon4Minerals, Vandersanden is active in two work packages. 

  • In WP2 Vandersanden will help TCKI to define the needed filter/pre-treatment installation that will be installed before the CO2 capture installation. They also assist CarbonOrO to facilitate the installation of a CO2 capture installation at Vandersanden Q4 2024. 

  • In WP4 Vandersanden will develop a receipt to produce CO2 negative facing bricks and pavers with Waste from the Arcelor Mittal BOF & DRI steel application Proces. 

At the end of the project (end 2026), Vandersanden will produce a pilot of 2000 ton facing products with this Arcelor Mittal slags.
