Carbon4Minerals at EUROSLAG 2024
The Carbon4Minerals project was featured at the 12th European Slag Conference (EUROSLAG 2024), held in Bilbao from October 23–25, 2024. This year’s theme, "Slags for the Future, the Future of Slags," emphasized the crucial role of slags in advancing sustainability and innovation in the steel industry.
Representing the Carbon4Minerals project, Liesbeth Horckmans, the project coordinator, delivered a compelling presentation titled Low Carbon Binders from Steel Slags by Dynamic Mineral Carbonation, illustrating how steel slags can be transformed into low-carbon materials using cutting-edge carbonation techniques. Our colleague from VITO, Antonino Runci presented Assessment of Pozzolanic Reactivity of Carbonated BOF Slag, shedding light on the reactivity and potential applications of basic oxygen furnace slag in construction.
The conference brought together leading experts, innovators, and decision-makers to explore the untapped potential of slags, setting the stage for new solutions in the circular, carbon-neutral economy. EUROSLAG 2024 highlighted how collaborative projects like Carbon4Minerals and our sister initiative, CO2TREAT, are pushing the boundaries of innovation and sustainability.
We are proud to be part of this transformative journey, contributing to a greener future for the steel industry and beyond. For those eager to explore the technical achievements of the Carbon4Minerals and CO2TREAT projects, don’t miss the opportunity to download and dive into the insightful presentations by Antonino Runci and Liesbeth Horckmans.
